The federal police traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) has identified 71 accident hotspots and blackspots on highways nationwide, including 25 hotspot areas and 46 blackspot areas with a high number of accidents, said federal JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, New Straits Times reported.
“These locations only involve highways, and we will continuously monitor them, especially during the festive season,” he said, adding that further details on the hotspots and blackspots will be announced later.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian fire and rescue department (JBPM) has identified 12 hotspots prone to accidents along the PLUS North-South Expressway (NSE) and the East Coast Expressway (LPT) ahead of the coming festive season, Bernama has reported.
Fire and rescue teams will be stationed at these key locations from March 29 to April 3 to enhance response efficiency, JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said.
“These two expressways are our main focus. Our primary goal is to reach the accident site within 30 minutes. Based on our experience, accidents on these expressways can cause severe traffic congestion, so we are deploying our personnel in these locations to minimise the impact,” he said.
Meanwhile, the JBPM will increase patrols along the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak during the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, he added.
