Guardians 3B Jose Ramirez exits vs. Royals with sprained wrist

The Cleveland Guardians will be holding their breath for the health of one of their top players.

Third baseman Jose Ramirez exited Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals in the sixth inning after suffering a sprained right wrist, the team announced.

The incident seems to have occurred in the third inning as Ramirez slid into second base on an attempted steal and jamming his hand against the bag.

Despite looking bothered on the play, he managed to stay in the game for three more innings before being replaced by Gabriel Arias.

Ramirez, 32, had no hits in the game up to that point but had recorded a walk. He has yet to get his first hit of the season.

A six-time all-star and five-time Silver Slugger, Ramirez put up strong .279/.335/.537 batting splits last season with 39 home runs, and career-highs in RBIs (118) and stolen bases (41).

The Guardians won their first game of the season on Thursday, beating the Royals 7-4 in 10 innings.
