Google’s New Updates Make it Easier for Parents to Keep Safe with Their Kids

While it’s been a while since we’ve gotten new updates regarding Google’s implementation of safety and communication features for parents and kids, the company recently announced that it’s making some upcoming changes to a number of software features designed to help families keep in touch and stay safe.

First up is Family Link – Google has introduced some refinements to the feature’s interface, which it says has been redesigned to give parents easier navigation. This includes a dedicated “Screen Time” tab that displays several management tools all under a single location, and account management is now found within the Controls tab, allowing for easier supervision of multiple users and devices.

Meanwhile, School time on Android is now rolling out to supported Android phones and tablets. Google says that its School time feature was developed to help reduce distractions with scheduled limited phone functionality, as well as silenced notifications during certain hours. It’s also available for the Fitbit Ace LTE and the Galaxy Watch for Kids experience.

Additionally, supervised Android users who are under the age of consent will be able to use their phones to make contactless payments. Parents will be able to add payment cards to their child’s Google Wallet, which can then be used to make purchases in stores. Parents will also be able to approve or remove cards, as well as view their child’s recent transaction history.

Finally, parents will soon get access to parent-managed contacts starting next month, which will allow them to monitor and approve select contacts that their kids are allowed to call and text from Android phones.
