Gibson’s “Passion” Sequel Finally Sets Filming

Actor/filmmaker Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” sequel, which has seemingly been unable to go into production for several years now, finally appears to have set a start date.

Speaking with Italian financial outlet Il Sole 24 Ore, Rome’s Cinecittà Studios CEO Manuela Cacciamani announced that the project, “The Resurrection of the Christ,” will begin shooting at the complex this August.

Gibson and his Icon Productions label will likely use the sprawling new Studio 22 facility at Cinecittà Studios, a place where much of the first film was produced.

In addition, shooting is taking place in Matera along with other Southern Italian rural locations like Ginosa, Gravina Laterza and Altamura.

Jim Caviezel is rumoured to reprise his role as Jesus in the film with a script by Gibson and screenwriter Randall Wallace that has been assembled from multiple drafts.

At last report, the film doesn’t have a linear narrative and is expected to travel to other realms.
