‘Getting out of hand’ – Steph Curry’s stunned reaction to Ja Morant gun gesture goes viral as fans call for suspension

Ja Morant has stirred controversy online with his latest gesture. The 25-year-old appeared to make a gun gesture towards the Warriors‘ bench during the Memphis Grizzlies’ 125-134 defeat to Golden State on Tuesday night. Curry and Morant both shone in a wild gameGetty The mercurial guard made what appeared to be finger guns towards the Warriors bench late in the game and with his team trailing. It appeared to be in response to Buddy Hield doing the same thing on the Warriors bench as Jimmy Butler shot late free throws. Both received double-technical fouls. Draymond Green immediately clocked Morant and asked the officials to give him a technical foul. Curry was also left bewildered by Morant’s gesture, looking back at him with his arms out apparently not understanding why he did what he did. Morant’s behaviour calls to mind his 25 game suspension in the 2023-24 season. Morant’s suspension came after he was filmed posing with a firearm in a car and in a nightclub. “Ja Morant‘s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a league statement at the time. “The potential for other young people to emulate Ja’s conduct is particularly concerning. Under these circumstances, we believe a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated,” Silver added. Like Green and Curry, fans online were also confused by Morant’s actions given his well-documented history with firearms.
