Flames’ Zary could return before end of regular season

The Calgary Flames might get Connor Zary back this season after all.

Zary is listed as week to week after he suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars. The Flames forward suffered the injury in an awkward collision with Stars forward Mikko Rantanen that saw his knee get bent at an awkward angle.

The Flames got some good news as Zary thankfully did not suffer a broken leg, and Flames general manager Craig Conroy isn’t ready to shut the door on Zary returning before the end of the regular season.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back at some point this season,” Conroy told Sportsnet’s Ryan Leslie during the first intermission of Tuesday’s game against Utah.

Zary has 13 goals and 26 points in 53 games this season.

The Saskatoon native also missed time earlier this season with a leg injury he suffered against the Anaheim Ducks.

If Zary does return, it would be a big boost for the Flames, who are fighting for their playoff lives.

Calgary entered Tuesday’s game against Utah five points back of the St. Louis Blues for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference with two games in hand.
