First Photos: Smoke, The Roses, Day Drinker

A couple of first-look photos have been released from several projects including a prestige series, a dark comedy remake, and the return of a once giant blockbuster star.

Today starts off with “Smoke,” a new Apple TV+ series that reunites “Black Bird” creator Dennis Lehane with that show’s star Taron Egerton.

Here, the story follows a detective and an arson investigator work together to stop two serial arsonists in the Pacific Northwest. Jurnee Smollett, John Leguizamo, Rafe Spall and Greg Kinnear co-star in the show which launches June 27th.

Next comes the first shots of Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman in the Jay Roach-directed dark divorce comedy “The Roses”. Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Andy Samburg, Ncuti Gatwa and Zoë Chao co-star.

A reimagining of Danny DeVito’s “The War of the Roses,” Cumberbatch and Colman play a picture-perfect married couple whose resentments spill forth after his professional dreams come crashing down.

Then there’s a first look at Johnny Depp in filmmaker Marc Webb’s new feature “Day Drinker” currently shooting in Spain. Penélope Cruz co-stars in the film along with Madelyn Cline, Manu Ríos and Arón Piper.

Cline plays a private-yacht bartender who encounters a mysterious, onboard guest (Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.

To catch an arsonist, they'll have to think like one.
