EFL club follows in Wrexham’s footsteps by announcing surprise documentary

Cambridge United announced they have signed an agreement with CBS Sports to air a three part documentary series. The show set to air at the start of next season will expose the highs and lows of Cambridge during this campaign’s relegation battle. The series will begin filming towards the end of this season and seek to capture on the pitch drama, its supporters and stakeholders through 30-minute episodes. It will be shown as part of CBS’ coverage of the EFL which they have the broadcasting rights to in the United States until the end of 2027/28. Some episodes will focus on the history of the club, highlighting the city as being the birth-place of the rules of Association Football. Their pre-season will also be covered alongside the start of next season.  Speaking about the announcement, CEO Alex Tunbridge stated: “This is not the first opportunity of the kind we have been presented with however, with the forthcoming rebrand and the recent changes to our football operations we believe now is the right time to share the Cambridge story overseas.  “We have a lot to be proud of as a club and as a city and we hope to use the CBS Sports platforms to educate and engage a new audience.  “CBS Sports have more than 50 million subscribers and we hope to be able to share a piece of Cambridge with as many of them as possible. “Initially this will be a modest production in terms of scale and scope, although we hope to be able to continue filming and produce a further set of episodes which will tell the full story of the 2025/26 season, be this via CBS Sports or other worldwide platforms.” Tunbridge will hope their TV show replicates the success of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ that aired for three seasons on streaming service Disney+.    Birmingham City thrashed Cambridge 4-0 in February, their join biggest defeat of the seasonGetty A documentary that covered Wrexham’s rise from non-league football and the journey club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney endured. In reaction to the U’s announcement many fans voiced their thoughts on social media platform X. ‘League 2 documentary’ one supporter jokingly posted.   Another said: “Gary Gardener’s first U’s appearance is going to be a Deadpool cameo isn’t it.” And a third added: “We are huge.”
