Funcom has confirmed that the survival MMO video game Dune: Awakening will launch on PC via Steam on May 20th for $49.99. Console versions will arrive at a later date.
A free character creator and benchmark tool has already launched on Steam and allows players to create their character and test their PC specs ahead of launch. Funcom says in a statement:
“Dune: Awakening is the most ambitious survival game ever made, set on the most dangerous planet in the universe, Arrakis. Whether a Dune fan or not, the vast world will immerse you in an epic experience that draws from both Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster movies.”
In the game, you start stranded on the sands of Arrakis – no water and no Stillsuit – and have to survive the harsh conditions – rising to greatness and challenging the power of an Imperium.
Survive the sandworm, craft your ornithopter, build a fortress, and ascend to power on an open world Arrakis shared with hundreds of other players.
The game boasts a Landsraad system that enables players aligned with the different houses to vote in ways that impact the whole world.
Specific areas will be subject to once a week Coriolis storms which will completely change the landscape, wiping out player outposts and revealing new resource locations.
Pre-orders start soon and players who pre-order will receive the ‘Terrarium of Muad’Dib’ decoration for their in-game houses.
