‘Drop’ Missed a Huge Opportunity With Its Villain
Christopher Landon's Drop is a fun thriller, but having one villain made the film harder to believe and lowered the stakes for Megan Fahy's Violet.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Drop.Contained premises are such fun because they allow us to more deeply explore the limited world the writer drops us into — pun very much intended, considering the latest to add to this collection is the Michael Bay-produced thriller, Drop. The central mystery of the narrative is the identity of the blackmailer who forces Violet (Meghann Fahy) to poison her date, and directorChristopher Landon uses clever cinematography and scenic geography to make the restaurant feel expansive and filled with possible threats. When we finally do get to the unveiling of the villain, Richard (Reed Diamond), there is a satisfactory feel to the unmasking as Diamond's performance immediately switches from goofy and innoquous menacing.
