‘Disgusting’ – Michael van Gerwen shares the only reason he will never have a drink with Luke Littler

Now that he has turned eighteen, the world has opened up for Luke Littler. Namely, he is now legally allowed to drink. Littler and Van Gerwen have already had numerous iconic matches – including the 2025 World Championship final which Littler wonGetty In a previous interview, fellow darts star Nathan Aspinall revealed ‘The Nuke’ is rather fond of a few Strongbow ciders, especially their Dark Fruits. But don’t expect to see Littler clinking pint glasses with three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen any time soon. Speaking on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs, Van Gerwen revealed the teenage sensation has grown in confidence among his peers. Part of that could be down to being able to drink with his fellow pros, something Van Gerwen would not know much about considering he largely abstains from alcohol. When asked whether the fact Littler can now drink means he has come out of his shell, Van Gerwen replied: “He starts to loosen up a bit, but not in that way. “I think he starts to talk a little bit more, he interacts a little bit more. “He is a good kid with a lot of capability. “But he didn’t have a pint of cider with me because I’ve never drunk a beer in my life. It’s disgusting.” Van Gerwen is not the only sober star on the darts circuit, with fellow Premier League competitor Chris Dobey another leading name who steers clear of alcohol. As for Littler, who turned 18 on January 21, he has not let the fact he can legally drink slow him down on the oche. talkSPORTThe three-time world champ joined talkSPORT to preview night 11 of the Premier League[/caption] The reigning world champion sits atop the Premier League standings on 28 points, five ahead of second-place Luke Humphries. Littler’s position on the table comes thanks to winning four of the ten nights this year, with his most recent being night eight in Newcastle. As for Van Gerwen, he is yet to taste success in the Premier League this year. His best run came on night seven in Cardiff when he was beaten in the final by Littler. However, Van Gerwen hopes to get a win on the board on Thursday when the Premier League heads to Rotterdam in what is the 35-year-old’s home event. Van Gerwen is desperate to return to the winner’s circle in RotterdamGetty “I have quite a good record against him and he doesn’t have the best performances,” Van Gerwen said. “Of course he had the win (in Berlin), but outside of that he had zero points. “He was a guy who came in the Premier League with a lot of confidence and you’ve seen how quick it can turn. “It’s tough, it’s hard. You have to battle game after game, week after week. You have to travel a lot. It doesn’t always make it easy, but you try to make the most of it. “I’m looking forward to tomorrow night. I feel I can do something and it’s my turn to do something. I need to make sure I’m starting my preparation good and make sure I’m on top of things.”
