Daniel Dubois stomachs eye-watering costs as Joseph Parker forfeit robs him of career-high payday
Daniel Dubois’ trainer has told talkSPORT that his client was left substantially ‘out of pocket’ following the collapse of his bout with Joseph Parker. According to reports, Dubois was set to pocket a career-highest payday of £7m to face Parker. But he saw none of that money after pulling out. In fact, Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, claims his fighter ended up losing a lot of money from the cost of camp expenses. “Well, yes [we received no payment],” Charles told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan on Thursday lunchtime. “It is not just for this incident. That is widespread. “For those who don’t know, when a fighter does a camp, especially a camp of this magnitude when you are a world champion training to defend your world title, and the fight doesn’t happen the fighter doesn’t get paid. “No one gets paid. It actually costs the fighter a lot of money to facilitate the camp for sparring partners, hotels etc. “So the fight is out of pocket by quite a substantial amount. WBA, WBO and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk is keen to rematch Dubois next for the undisputed heavyweight crown. But the WBO have thrown a spanner in the works by ordering Usyk to face ‘interim’ champion Parker. In an exclusive statement provided to talkSPORT.com, Olivieri wrote: “If an exception is lodged with the Championship Committee requesting that the unification be allowed to supersede the enforcement of the mandatory, the committee per its discretion, may allow it to do so. “We shall wait and see what happens.
