The pair were slated to fight in October 2022 but it was scrapped after Benn tested positive for clomifene just days before the bout. As part of the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) investigation, they found the reason behind Benn having the banned substance in his system was due to excessive egg consumption. Benn was subsequently placed under an on-and-off two-year provisional suspension by the BBBofC, which was briefly lifted in July 2023 by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP). As a result of the NADP’s decision, Benn was allowed to compete in a pair of fights under a US boxing license. However, a 170lbs rehydration clause has been inserted into their contracts to level the playing field. Even though the fight is over a month away, the pair nearly came to blows in their latest media commitment on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
