According to star Charlie Cox, he and Vincent D’Onofrio helped usher in the creative overhaul of Daredevil: Born Again. As we know, Marvel decided to retool the almost completed Daredevil: Born Again. Six episodes had already been shot. However, it was during the strikes Marvel execs decided a creative overhaul was needed. Now they had the space to do it. The Punisher‘s Dario Scardapane was drafted in as the new showrunner. They shot new episodes and new scenes to connect what they already had.

Speaking with GQ, Cox explains that although he and D’Onofrio were professional. However, they did feedback their concerns to Marvel before that decision was made. I’d imagine your lead stars saying it’s working was a pretty effective red flag moment for Marvel. Here’s what Charlie Cox had to say,

“The thinking was, Well, we don’t want to do the same thing. We’ve done that,” Cox says. Although Cox and D’Onofrio both agreed to return, it was reported that the showrunners initially recast several other characters, drawing mixed reactions from fans. Cox, for his part, says that he started to have doubts early in production. “Vincent and I were both not 100 per cent convinced what we were doing at the time was the right path, but we’re both good soldiers and professionals, and we were trying to be open-minded.”

“The writers’ strike happened, then the actors’ strike, which gave the producers an opportunity to look at our episodes and decide that it wasn’t quite working,”

However, as Cox says they did ‘make it known’ they weren’t too happy.

“We made it known that we were not happy, and the big bosses, especially Kevin [Feige], listened to us,” D’Onofrio told me. The result, Cox says, “feels much more in keeping with the kind of stuff we did at Netflix.”

Not long to go now until we get to judge for ourselves. Daredevil: Born Again premieres this March 4 on Disney+. I will be reviewing the show episodically for LRM Online. So check out what I thought after March 4 and then every week until the finale.
