The Montreal Canadiens are getting a boost to the blue line in time for a playoff push.
Days after taking part in his first full practice, Kaiden Guhle is set to slot back into the Montreal Canadiens lineup for their game on Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Guhle has been out since suffering an injury in a game against the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 28 when he crashed into the boards. He underwent surgery to repair a lacerated quadriceps muscle.
The 23-year-old has missed the team’s last 21 games, with the Canadiens going 9-8-4 in that time.
The Edmonton, Alta., native skated for the first time back on March 7. General manager Kent Hughes said at the time that he was not certain if he would be able to return this season. He then took part in his first full practice on March 24.
Guhle has recorded 14 points (four goals and 10 assists) in 44 games this season while averaging 21:14 in ice time.
He was drafted in the first round, 16th overall, by Montreal in 2020.
As of Friday, the Canadiens occupy the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 33-29-9 record. They have a one-point lead over the New York Islanders and Rangers.
