The Stanley Cup Playoffs are taking a toll on the Montreal Canadiens.
Defenceman Alexandre Carrier was absent from practice and is listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, the team announced Tuesday.
Carrier exited late in Game 4 and did not return after taking a big hit from Capitals forward Tom Wilson. The 28-year-old right-handed defenceman has a goal and an assist while playing over 20 minutes a night in the playoffs.
Forward Patrik Laine, who’s missed the past two games with an upper-body injury, returned to the ice ahead of Game 5. Head coach Martin St. Louis told reporters after practice that the Finnish forward is also listed as day-to-day.
Montreal’s big off-season acquisition has yet to find the back of the net this post-season after potting 20 in 52 regular-season games. Laine has just one assist in nearly 12 minutes of ice time through Games 1 and 2.
Meanwhile, forwards Brendan Gallagher and Josh Anderson, as well as blue-liner David Savard, were all absent from practice on Tuesday with maintenance days, according to the Canadiens.
Starting goalie Samuel Montembeault was also absent and remains listed as day-to-day, according to Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette. Montembeault suffered a lower-body injury in Game 3.
Game 5 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
