Briane Harris joins Team Cameron as third

Briane Harris’s wild curling journey will continue on a new team in Manitoba.

Team Cameron, skipped by Kate Cameron, announced Monday it is adding Harris as third.

Harris was cleared to return to action on Jan. 14, 2025, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled she was not at fault for the positive doping test in Feb. 2024. However, four-time national champ Kerri Einarson opted to stick with her current lineup for the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Harris was notified of a positive test for the banned substance Ligandrol last February, on the eve of the 2024 Canadian women’s championship she was supposed to play with Team Einarson. She was handed a provisional suspension by World Curling on March 12, 2024.

Team Cameron also includes Taylor McDonald and Mackenzie Elias. The team missed the playoffs at this year’s Scotties, going 4-4.

Cameron won bronze at last year’s Scotties.

Later Monday, Team Einarson released a statement thanking Harris.

“This past year has brought its challenges, and while we did our best to navigate the circumstances, sometimes difficult situations can shift the direction of a team,” wrote Team Einarson.

Minus Harris, the Einarson rink fell to eventual world champion Team Homan in the Scotties final.

It racked up a 6-2 round-robin record before edging Nova Scotia in the semis.

Alternate Krysten Karwacki filled in at lead during Harris’s absence. Team Einarson, based in Gimli, Man., is ranked fourth in the world.
