Blue Jays, Ryan Yarbrough agree to minor-league deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have re-signed some much-needed pitching depth.

Left-handed hurler Ryan Yarbrough and Toronto agreed to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training that is pending a physical, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi on Thursday.

MLB Insider Robert Murray was first to report the deal.

The Blue Jays acquired Yarbrough from the Dodgers at last year’s trade deadline in a deal that sent outfielder Kevin Kiermaier the other way. The 33-year-old Yarbrough posted a 2.01 ERA in 31.1 relief innings with Toronto.

Yarbrough gives Toronto a solid left-handed pitching option. Josh Walker and Brendon Little are the lone southpaws in the Blue Jays’ projected bullpen, but combine for just 68.2 innings pitched in the big leagues.

In his seven-year MLB career, Yarbrough owns a 4.21 ERA across 768 innings. He has also made 68 starts, but was used exclusively as a reliever last season.
