Bills GM Brandon Beane criticizes radio host over team’s draft approach
It sounds like Brandon Beane is done hearing about what the Buffalo Bills should have done at the NFL draft.

It sounds like Brandon Beane is done hearing about what the Buffalo Bills should have done at the NFL Draft.
The Bills general manager made an appearance on WGR550’s Jeremy and Joe Show and didn’t wait too long to sound off on criticisms that the team is not prioritizing the wide receiver position.
“I was listening to the last few minutes of your show before I came on, waiting on here. It sounds like 2018 all over with you guys,” Beane told hosts Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase. “You guys were (expletive) in 2018 about Josh Allen, you wanted Josh Rosen. And now you guys are (expletive) that we don’t have a receiver. I don’t get it.”
The Bills selected three players on the offensive side of the ball, drafting tight end Jackson Hawes in the fifth round and tackle Chase Lundt in the sixth round but did not select a receiver until the seventh round when they took Kaden Prather out of Maryland.
Beane defended the team’s approach to focus on the defence, pointing to the success the Bills had on offence after scoring an NFL-best 612 points.
“We just scored 30 points in a row for eight straight games,” said Beane. “A year ago, I got you guys asking why we didn’t have receivers. But I don’t understand it now. You just saw us lead the league in points when you add the post-season. No one scored more points than the Buffalo Bills, including the Super Bowl champion.”
The Bills’ lack of top-end receiver talent has been a major talking point over the last few years, especially with the team deciding to trade Stefon Diggs after the 2023 season.
Quarterback Josh Allen took home the NFL MVP award even though Buffalo did not have a single receiver record more than 900 yards through the air last year.
The team did add Canadian receiver Josh Palmer in free agency but lost Mack Hollins after he signed with the New England Patriots.
In past drafts, Buffalo has made it a point to address the offence after adding receivers Keon Coleman (Round 2, 2024) and Khalil Shakir (Round 4, 2022), while also moving up to select tight end Dalton Kincaid in the first round in 2023.
Beane said he believes the idea of focusing on drafting wide receivers isn’t going to help the Bills’ pursuit of a Super Bowl.
“How is this group not better than last year’s group?” Beane asked. “Our job is to score points and win games. Where do we need to get better? Defence. We did that.
“So I get it, you got to have a show and you got to have something to (expletive). But (expletive) about wide receivers is one of the dumbest arguments I’ve ever heard.”
