Martin Berry will join Iron Lynx’s LMGT3 lineup in the FIA World Endurance Championship for next week’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, replacing Christian Ried.
The Australian, who competes under the Singaporean flag, will pilot the No. 61 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo starting at the Ardennes circuit, teaming up with Lin Hodenius and Maxime Martin.
Berry, who also competes with the Andrea Piccini-led squad in the European Le Mans Series, will step in to replace Ried after the German contested the first two rounds in Qatar and Imola.
While the 47-year-old has so far only been confirmed for Spa, a team spokesperson told Sportscar365 that further outings, including at next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, are likely to follow.
“Stepping up to the FIA WEC is truly a dream come true, and to be doing it with the incredible team at Iron Lynx in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 feels absolutely right,” Berry said.
Berry made his racing debut in 2017 in Ferrari Challenge and subsequently gained experience in the Michelin 24H Series, GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS and Intercontinental GT Challenge before stepping up to ELMS in 2023.
There, he has to date claimed three pole positions and one podium driving for the likes of JMW Motorsport, Grid Motorsport by TF as well as Iron Lynx.
Ried, for his part, hinted that he opted to step away from driving duties again as it proved difficult to combine with his management duties at Proton Competition.
“I want to thank Iron Lynx for the great welcome and for the hard work in the first two rounds,” said Ried.
“It was an interesting and very enjoyable experience.
“Unfortunately, although we did our best to make it work, the level of commitment to keep a double role as a driver and team principal of Proton Competition proved not to be sustainable in the long run.
“Still, it was a great experience and I look forward to continuing the collaboration between Proton and Iron Lynx for the LMP2 ELMS and Le Mans program.”
