Bam Margera says his “passion to skateboard” is back and his inclusion in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has been confirmed.
Earlier this year, Activision confirmed a remastered bundle featuring 2001’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and the 2002 follow-up would be released July 11. The games have been “rebuilt from the ground up” and will feature an enhanced soundtrack of classic and new Pro Skater anthems.
However fans were furious when OG skater Bam Margera wasn’t included in the list of playable skaters. The CKY and Jackass star made his debut in Pro Skater 3 and gave out missions in 4. In total, he’s featured in seven Tony Hawk’s games.
No reason for his absence was given but in 2022, Bam Margera was fired from Jackass Forever following a positive drugs test and was later placed on involuntary psychiatric hold by police. At the end of 2023, he revealed he’d been sober for 120 days thanks to the help of actor Mark Wahlberg.
It was later reported that Tony Hawk himself “demanded” Margera be added back to the game and last night, Activision confirmed he would be available as a “secret skater”.
Speaking to NME on the red carpet of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Fest at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, Margera said his love of skateboarding had returned thanks to Hawk.
“I spent so much time playing those games [back in the day], I would miss flights because they were so addictive. I would always keep the volume up at full blast as well, because I liked every song on the soundtrack,” he said.
“I did stop skateboarding for about ten years to do god knows what, but I started skating with Tony down his [vertical half pipe] ramp again recently,” Margera continued. “My wife is a stretch coach so we stretch together for an hour every day, then I go skate. I have my passion to skateboard again and I’m just so happy to be back on a board.”
Onstage during the event, Hawk gave the “legends” of the game (“both new and old, no offence”) a shout out, before describing the night as a “celebration of skate culture”.
The one-day festival, which was also livestreamed around the world via the Pro Skater Twitch channel, featured performances from Danny Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Adolescents, and Urethane. Activision has also revealed more details about nine of the levels that players will be able to skate and announced the third wave of artists that will be featured on the soundtrack to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.

Speaking to NME about music, Margera revealed that he’s been working with Puerto Rican band Amore Ad Lunam. “They sound like HIM and The 69 Eyes, really good gothic rock.”
“I also like Lacrimas Profundere from Germany and The Black Capes from Greece. They’ve just got those heavy rock riffs with that dark, gothic voice. It’s hard for me to listen to screamy hardcore stuff, I prefer metal bands with female singers because it’s soothing. I listen to a lot of Within Temptation and Nightwish.”
Hawk previously defended his decision to update the soundtracks for Pro Skater 3+4. “I’m hoping that discovery is half the fun, and a big reason that these soundtracks resonated in the first place,” we wrote on social media. “So listen and enjoy the ride. More to come… both old and new.”
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will be released July 11 and will be available on PC as well as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles. It will also be a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass.
