Audi Sport is putting up its former LMP prototypes and DTM cars for sale, with the ex-factory entries available for purchase in drivable condition for the first time.

Announced on Wednesday, the newly formed ‘Audi Sport racing legends’ project has been created to offer customer support to collectors.

The first car is expected to be handed over to a undisclosed collector sometime this summer.

“We are rebuilding these chassis together with reconditioned parts from that time into racing cars according to strict standards and with a high level of expertise,” said Audi Sport GmbH managing director Rolf Michl.

“In some cases, even the developers from that era are involved in the current projects.

“The Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the RS 5 DTM are two of the fastest racing cars we have ever built. Customers can look forward not only to extremely sought-after racing cars, but also to a firework display of driving emotions.

“Our customers become part of a select circle, benefit from our motorsport expertise and receive comprehensive support.”

The German manufacturer has offered up two initial cars for sale, chassis 207 of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, which won the 2012 Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps round of the FIA World Endurance Championship with drivers Romain Dumas, Loic Duval and Marc Gene.

Additionally, an Audi RS 5 DTM car, chassis 107, is up for sale and was a race winner in DTM with Timo Scheider in 2015.

Audi Sport’s new project will be on-site at the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim, the Le Mans Classic and the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year.

The sales of Audi’s factory race cars is the latest development in the company’s transformation, which has seen the disbandment of its GT3 factory roster and the final R8 LMS GT3 race car produced recently delivered.
