Arsenal have been urged to consider a controversial bid for Harry Kane, with Joe Cole insisting the England captain would be ‘perfect’ for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Having missed out on the Bundesliga title in his maiden season at Bayern Munich, Kane appears close to finally ending his wait for a major trophy.

The England captain has scored 21 goals in 19 league games to help Bayern storm into an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

But despite his impressive exploits since completing his £100m move from Tottenham in August 2023, Kane’s future with the German giants has come under intriguing speculatio in recent days.

While his contract does not run out until the summer of 2027, recent reports revealed that the England captain has a £54million release clause that can be activated next January.

At that price, Kane could prove an intriguing option for several top clubs, with Manchester United already linked with a move for the 31-year-old.

Arsenal have also been tipped as a potential landing destination given Arteta’s side have been crying out for a natural goalscorer for the past couple of seasons.

The Gunners have made no bones about their desire to bring in attacking reinforcements this January but were priced out of moves for several of their key targets.

However, the club are likely to resume their hunt for a striker in future windows and Cole believes that signing Kane and Arsenal could be a match made in heaven however difficult agreeing a potential deal could prove.

‘I can see the logic with Harry Kane joining Arsenal – stranger things have happened,’ Cole told Paddy Power.

‘He’s gone to Germany, and he’s carried on where he left off. The man just oozes goals.

‘For Arsenal, as a footballer, he would be the perfect last piece in the jigsaw – he suits them down to the ground.

Cole, however urged caution about the prospects of a potential deal between both parties, adding: ‘I can’t see it, however, – there’s such a wrench between the two clubs.

‘I think it would be too much for Harry. Sol Campbell joining Arsenal from Spurs was a bit different to this, but from a football perspective, it makes a lot of sense, because he is perfect for their style of football.’

Regardless of their targets in subequent windows, Arsenal are likely to let several players go in the summer to raise funds.

And former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has named five Arsenal squad members who could face the chop at the end of the season.

‘They’ve got a lot of defensive players there at the moment,’ Pennant told Metro with NewBettingSites.UK.

‘(Oleksandr) Zinchenko and Jorginho – you may as well let them go. Kieran Tierney is another who has not really featured much.

‘If they can get a high-profile striker, I could also see Kai Havertz or Gabriel Jesus departing because the goal tally between those two is quite similar and neither get up to that 15-goal-a-season mark.’
