Diego Luna has revealed that he got into trouble at Heathrow Airport for carrying his prop blaster from Andor in his carry-on luggage.

The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote the second and final season of the show, a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Speaking during the interview, he recalled catching a flight after the show’s wrap party, and deciding to carry the blaster with him to avoid the risk of it being lost.

He then revealed that security’s reaction to the item was no what he expected. “The guys unwrapped the (blaster) and they were like, ‘Whoa, what is that!?’” he said. “And I was trying to grab it to say, ‘No, it’s just a prop!’ And everyone (went), ‘No, no, no! Don’t touch it!’”

Making matters worse, a member of staff then recognised Luna, but from another role – as drug trafficker Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo in Narcos: Mexico. “He’s like, ‘Whoa, wait a second!’” he joked. “It was a mess — and I was hungover from the party, so I did look kind of broken, let’s put it that way”.

Eventually, however, an understanding was reached. “They asked me to go out, sign a letter, I had to show them in my phone pictures of the character, myself, grabbing the blaster,” he said. “There’s even toys, you know? They got it at the end”.

The experience has meant that the actor is reluctant to take it out in public again. When asked where the prop was, he replied: “It’s in my closet, It’s never coming out”.

The second and final season of Andor is released April 23 on Disney+. Recently, it was revealed that the original Star Wars movie would be screened in its original form for the first time in decades.
