Adam Adelson has outlined plans for Wright Motorsports to re-enter GT World Challenge America powered by AWS and Porsche Carrera Cup North America next year, as part of the team’s long-term goal to be in every Porsche-eligible series in North America.

The 28-year-old driver announced on Wednesday the purchase of Wright Motorsports from team founder John Wright, in a move that will maintain the team’s roots in Ohio despite Adelson living on the West Coast.

Adelson, who started racing in 2020, revealed that he had explored starting his own team from the ground-up prior to his recent acquisition of the championship-winning organization which came late last year.

“The main goal is to effectively achieve a level of growth that enables us to field race and championship-winning capable programs across every series that a Porsche GT race car can race in the United States,” he said.

“Pretty much everything from Porsche Sprint Challenge to Carrera Cup, to SRO and to IMSA and within all the various series under them.

“I know that’s an exceedingly large task to grow the team to that size. But we’ve been working on the sale of the team for over a year at this point.

“John Wright and I have had a lot of long discussions to make sure we have a mutual understanding of what the future of the team should be and how to grow the team progressively and organically, so we’d never bite off more than we can chew.

“The very thing that I would ever want to happen, and I will not allow this to happen, is to lose the level of quality and service we provide for our customers.

“I want every single customer that Wright Motorsports will have to have the same exact incredible, extremely professional experience that I had with them.

“It’s why I wanted to purchase the team. I want to make sure that every customer we have can have that same experience.”

As for 2026, Adelson sees the team competing in two additional series, alongside a continued effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

It includes a targeted return to GTWC America, where he and long-time co-driver Elliott Skeer won the 2024 Pro class title with Wright.

“Next year, I’m aiming to have customers in GT World Challenge America as well as Carrera Cup,” he said. “We’ll continue to expand from there.”

Adelson also reaffirmed plans for Wright to remain based in Batavia, Ohio, near Cincinnati, for the time being.

“We have plans for expansion but the heart of Wright Motorsports is in Ohio,” he said. “The people who make this organization be amazing, the amazing place that it is, are all based out of there.

“Even though I live a few time zones away, I’m waking up early every morning to talk to those guys and be involved in the day-to-day operations.”

Adelson and Skeer head into next weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach third in the GTD class standings, in what will be the first official race under new ownership structure and revised management that will also see longtime team manager Bob Viglione bring promoted to chief operating officer.

“I had an all-hands meeting with all of our full-time employees and all of our contractors and everyone who’s been part of the Wright Motorsports family after the purchase of the team became information that was available to them,” said Adeslon.

“I told them, when I’m at the race track, I’m not the owner of the team. I’m a customer and I’m a driver.

“John Wright, running the program, as amazingly as he did, purchasing it, there’s really not much more that I need to be involved in relative to what I want to be involved in.

“When we’re at the race track, the operation runs so smoothly and so perfectly, and I don’t have to concern myself with the operation of the team because driving at the level and competing at the level we’re at, all of your focus needs to be on the driving and you should have no distraction in your mind.

“The team have done an incredible job respecting that.”
