After opening with a colossal $163 million at the box office, A Minecraft Movie failed to achieve one more accomplishment during its first Monday in theaters. While holding the record for the biggest opening of the year, the Jack Black-led video game adaptation grossed $9.9 million on Monday, which is less than the $11.1 million earned by Captain America: Brave New World during its first Monday in theaters. Anthony Mackie’s latest MCU movie currently holds the silver medal for the second-highest opening of the year with $88 million, but it still holds firm as the biggest weekday at the box office this year with $11.1 million. However, A Minecraft Movie is still expected to easily surpass Brave New World at the box office, possibly even before the end of its second weekend in theaters.
