2025 Vancouver International Auto Show removes Tesla from event for safety due to public sentiment

Tesla has been removed from taking part in the Vancouver International Auto Show for the safety of the event’s attendees, workers and participants, The Canadian Press has reported.

The carmaker’s removal from the event comes after several ‘Tesla Takedown’ protests were held over the weekend in locations including Ottawa and Metro Vancouver, denouncing Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his role as advisor to United States president Donald Trump, the report wrote.

Tesla was given “multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw” from the auto show, and the organiser had asked the carmaker to withdraw out of “primary concern” for the safety of workers, attendees and participants at the event, Vancouver International Auto Show executive director Eric Nicholl said in a statement.

The brand has sustained arson attacks on its vehicles in a Tesla collision repair centre in Las Vegas this week, as well as near its Berlin Gigafactory in March.

The American EV brand has also been subject to negative perception in Malaysia, with calls to boycott the company from the general public on social media, and Tesla vehicles have been vandalised, though the motivation behind the attacks on the vehicles in Malaysia is not exactly clear.
